Switching to EMV for Element PS Customers



If you are an Element PS customer, you must switch to EMV to be able to use a chip and pin device for taking payment.

Element PS uses triPOS® software for implementing encrypted EMV payments for your point of sale. For more details, contact Zenoti support.

All the steps involved in switching to EMV are explained in this article. 

triPOS® is not supported on Mac.

Supported Devices

Zenoti supports the following two devices for Element PS – Verifone Mx915 and Verifone Vx805:

Step 1: Downloading Device Drivers and the triPOS Software

  1. On the top right hand corner of the appointment book, click the help icon: .
  2. At the bottom of the Help window, click the triPOS software link, and then the model of your device to download triPOS and your device drivers respectively.
Do not plug the EMV terminal into the computer until the driver is installed.

Step 2: Installing the Device Drivers

Depending on the device driver you have downloaded in step 1, do one of the following:

To Install the Vx805 Drivers

  1. Go to the location where the driver is downloaded on your machine, and double-click the Vx_1.0.0.61_B2.zip folder.
  2. Double-click the setup application file.
  3. In the License Agreement window, click 'I accept the agreement.'
  4. Click Next.
  5. The driver is successfully installed.

To Install the Driver for Verifone Mx915

  1. Go to the location where the driver is downloaded on your machine, double-click the Verifone Mx USB Drivers folder, and then double-click the USB Drivers folder.
  2. Depending on whether your system properties click one of the following folders:
    • Win7-Vista-XP-(Embedded) 32-bit USB Driver or 
    • Win7-Vista-XP-(Embedded) 64-bit USB Driver.
  3. For the 32-bit drivers:
    • Unzip the usb_installvfi_3_2.zip folder
    • Open usb_installvfi_3_2
    • Double-click the usb_installvfi.msi file
    • Click Yes if the screen displays the following alert: Do you want to allow the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes to this computer?
    • The system opens the installation wizard. Click Next.
    • Depending on your model, select the checkbox next to MX 8xx series or the VX series, and from the corresponding Serial Port list, select COM9.
    • In the next screen, click Install.

    • Click Finish.
  4. For the 64-bit drivers:
    • Unzip the usb_installvfi64_1_1.zip folder.
    • Open usb_installvifi64_1_1.
    • Double-click the usb installvfi64.msi file.
    • Click Yes if the system shows the following alert: Do you want to allow the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes to this computer? 
    • Click Next when the system displays the following screens:
    • Click Install when the system shows the following screen:
    • Click Finish.
You can now plug in the EMV terminal to the computer with USB

Step 3: Installing triPOS Software

  1. On your local machine, go to the location where the triPOS software is downloaded, and double-click the triPOS setup file.
  2. Click Extract all when the system displays the following message:
  3. Browse for the location where you want to extract the files.
  4. Click Extract.
  5. Double-click triPos Setup.
  6. In the triPOS Software License Agreement window, select the I agree to the terms and conditions check box.
  7. Click Install.
  8. Click Yes when the system prompts you to make changes on your hard drive.
  9. Click Next.
  10. In the Configuration Information window, enter the name of your company that you have used to sign up with Element PS.

    Note: Element PS provides you with Account ID, Acceptor ID, and Account Token when the merchant account is created. Contact them for these details. 
  11. Click Next.
  12. In the Default Lane Setting window, click Next.

  13. In the Serial/USB Information, you will see the default com port number. It is recommended that you note down the default port number and use it.
    Optionally, if you want to change the com port number view this video to understand the steps.
  14. Click Next.
  15. In the Ready to install window, click Install.
  16. Click Finish.

    Note: Copy the Developer 1 Key and the Developer 1 Secret and note it down. You will need these later.
  17. The system displays a Success message. Click Close.

Step 4: Configuring triPOS Software

If the device displays errors and does not display the Welcome message on the device screen, you must make the following configuration changes to the configuration file present at: C:\Program Files (x86)\Vantiv\triPOS Service

  1. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Vantiv\triPOS Service.
  2. Open the triPOS.config file in Notepad.
  3. Change test mode:
    1. Search <testmode>true<testmode>
    2. Change this to <testmode>false<testmode>
  4. Set CORS:
    1. Search for <!--<corsAllowedOrigins></corsAllowedOrigins>--!>
    2. Change this to <corsAllowedOrigins> * </corsAllowedOrigins>
  1. Set EMV
    1. Search for <isEmvSupported>false</isEmvSupported>
    2. Update to <isEmvSupported>true</isEmvSupported>
  1. Set TIPS
    1. Search for <isTipAllowed>false</isTipAllowed>
    2. Change this to <isTipAllowed>True</isTipAllowed>
  1. Set the suggested TIP amounts
    1. Search for <tipSelections>10%, 15%, 20% none</tipSelections>
    2. Replace none with other to allow for custom tips as follows: <tipSelections>10%, 15%, 20%, other</tipSelections>
  1. If your device model is Vx 805
    1. Search for <driver>VeriFoneFormAgentXpi<driver>
    2. Update it to <driver>VeriFoneXpi</driver>
  1. Save file 
    1. Click File>Save as
    2. Save this to the desktop
    3. Name the file as “triPOS.config”
    4. Change Save as type to All Files (*.*)
  1. Reopen the tripos folder and drag this file into the folder to replace the original.
  1. Restart triPOS Service
    1. Seach for Services in windows.
      • If Services do not show, search for Admin Tools; Services are in the Admin Tools file.
    2. Right click and click Run as admin.
    3. Find triPOS service is the list.
    4. Right click and restart.
    5. The device cycles and shows the company name.

Step 5: Changing the Device Type to Chip and Pin in Zenoti

You must change the device type from Swipe to Chip and Pin if you are switching to EMV by performing the following steps:

  1. Make sure you are at the center level.
  2. On the main menu, click the Admin tab.
  3. On the Admin Dashboard, click Centers.
  4. Click the name of a center.
  5. Click the Payments tab.
  6. Click Integrated Payment Processing.
  7. From the Device Type list, select Chip and Pin.

  8. In the Lane ID, enter 1.
  9. In the Port Number, type 8080.
  10. In the Developer Key field, enter the developer 1 key that you copied in the previous procedure.
  11. In the Developer Secret field, enter the developer 1 secret that you copied in the previous procedure.
  12. In the the Account Id field, enter the key that you copied in the previous procedure.
  13. In the Acceptor Id field, enter the key you copied in the previous procedure.
  14. In the Terminal Id field, enter 1.
  15. In the Account Token field, enter the key you copied in the previous procedure.
  16. Click Save.

Step 6: Processing Payments Using EMV Credit or Debit Cards

  1. Go to Appointment Book and right click the appointment for which you want to process payment.
  2. Click Take Payment.
  3.  In the Collect Payment section, click the Credit tab.
  4. Click Add Payment.
  5. Swipe the guest's credit card on the chip and pin device.
    Note: After you swipe the card, you must immediately work on the device to process the payment. Delay in working on the device results in the payment processing time out error. You will see the following image on your screen. Do not do anything.



Steps to be performed on the device after swiping the card on the device:

  1. Select the type of card by pressing the button adjacent to the option you select. The options available on the screen of the device are Credit, Debit, and Gift Cards.
  2. The system displays a prompt, Confirm and displays the amount to be charged. Press the button adjacent to Yes to proceed.
  3. The system displays the Tip amount, press the button adjacent to Yes to proceed.
    The payment is processed. A "Thank You" message is displayed on the device screen.


If you encounter an error where the browser you are using does not allow communication, it might be due to accessing the website over http instead of https. To resolve this issue, you must allow browsers to enable mixed content. 

To enable mixed content, perform the following steps:

For Google Chrome

  1. Go to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe"
  2. Replace "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" with "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --allow-running-insecure-content

  3. Click OK. Launch Chrome using this icon you created on the desktop.

For Mozilla Firefox (Recommended Browser for EMV)

  1. Download the Firefox Add-on from the following web site: https://addons.mozilla.org/EN-us/firefox/addon/toggle-mixed-active-content/
  2. Ensure the add-on is set to “Content Not Blocked” status. (The icon turns Red) as shown:
